Skills

Technical

For me, coding is a creative way to solve problems. I have always put these two passions in separate boxes, so when I started to learn to code I never imaged it would become a creative outlet too.

The following is a self-assessment of my skills based off project feedback, mentor discussions and course completion.

Continuous Development

Learning is an important value to me, which I feel makes me adaptable and curious as I am always trying to understand 'why'. If I don't understand something, or am new to a topic, I engage and ask questions.

As I am switching from selling software to developing it. This change has involved taking a part-time course with the Code Institute; additional (and ongoing) React JS training with the University of Helsinki and marketing training with HubSpot. The web development languages I have experience with are HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python and React JS, alongside some frameworks such as Bootstrap and Django (drf)

To put in to practise what I have been learning, I took part in a Hackathon in June 2024 with SheCanCode which asked us to solve the problem of making Finance more accessible to women. Our team created a web app we dubbed the 'Duolingo for finance'.

Leadership

I started as a graduate at Dassault Systemes nearly 6 years ago and worked my way from supporting accounts to leading a team through pieces of work to being a Technical Executive for a major UK account. This progress is down to my ability to communicate clearly, problem solve, take on feedback and improve.

This was awarded by being nominated to go on some external Leadership Training with Ivy House London. This training started on self-leadership through understanding our passions, beliefs and motivation, then lead onto how to better lead externally through some key external tools. It was very eye-opening and I still use some of the teachings today.

Consulting

In my previous role, value-based selling was used across the business. This was the defacto process from initial discussions with customers through to handover to the implementation team. The consultancy skills I have picked up, I feel, can be adapted and transfered when engaging on future projects in web development.

As part of value-based selling, requirement creation and use case development was conducted. This was a vital part for the design and development of any of the projects I have done as part of my course, so it was enjoyable to reuse these skills during this process.

Other Soft Skills

A big part of my previous role was to present and demonstrate solutions to established and new customers. Although I still get a touch nervous, I am clear and concise with what I say.

As I have worked in the software industry, I have worked with teams across the business to understand and satisfy customer requirements, this includes implemetation and R&D teams. Being part of these cross-organisation teams means having to adapt to the different processes each team has, this has meant fitting into agile or waterfall projects.

One of my biggest strengths is my organisation, I excel when things are organised, clear and structured. This, in part, has been key to my and my team's success in reaching deadlines, and planning future commitments with customers.
